Setting Up Pixels

  1. Go to Pixels in your dashboard
  2. Click Add Pixel
  3. Select the platform
  4. Enter your pixel/tag ID
  5. Save the pixel

Assigning Pixels to Links

Once created, pixels can be assigned to individual links or applied as defaults:

  • Per-Link: Select pixels when creating or editing a link
  • Default Pixels: Set pixels to automatically apply to all new links
  • Multiple Pixels: Assign multiple pixels to a single link
Pro Strategy: Share other people's content through your short links. You don't own their site, but your pixels still fire—building your retargeting audience from their great content.

Pixel Events

Configure which events fire with your pixels. By default, a PageView event fires when someone clicks your link. Advanced options include:

  • PageView: Standard page visit (default)
  • ViewContent: Content view event
  • Custom Events: Fire specific events for your campaigns

Call-to-Action Overlays

Display your brand's message on top of any webpage you link to. CTA overlays add a banner, popup, or corner widget that stays visible while visitors browse the destination.

Overlay Types

Top Bar A slim banner at the top of the page
Bottom Bar A banner fixed to the bottom of the viewport
Corner Widget A small floating element in a corner
Modal Popup A centered popup (use sparingly)

CTA Content Options

  • Headline: Your main message (keep it short)
  • Description: Supporting text
  • Button Text: Your call-to-action
  • Button URL: Where the button leads
  • Brand Logo: Your logo image
  • Colors: Background and text colors

Creating a CTA Overlay

  1. Go to CTA Overlays in your dashboard
  2. Click Create Overlay
  3. Choose your overlay type
  4. Add your content and customize styling
  5. Preview and save
  6. Assign to links when creating or editing
Example Use Cases
  • Curated Content: Share industry articles with "Read more on our blog" CTA
  • Affiliate Marketing: Add your referral pitch to product pages
  • Lead Generation: Offer a free resource in exchange for email signup
  • Event Promotion: Remind visitors about your upcoming webinar
Respect Users: Overlays should add value, not annoy. Use them thoughtfully and ensure they're easy to dismiss. Aggressive overlays hurt your brand.

Link Cloaking

Link cloaking hides the final destination URL from visitors. Instead of immediately redirecting, the destination loads within a frame while your short URL stays in the browser's address bar.

Why Use Cloaking?

  • Branding: Keep your branded domain visible throughout the visit
  • Affiliate Links: Hide long, ugly affiliate URLs
  • Simplicity: Users can share the clean short URL they see
  • Tracking: Enables additional tracking opportunities

Cloaking Options

Frame Redirect Loads destination in an iframe (your URL stays visible)
Masked Redirect Similar to frame but with additional URL masking
Standard Redirect Normal 301/302 redirect (no cloaking)
Frame Limitations: Some websites block being loaded in frames (X-Frame-Options). Cloaking won't work for these sites. Always test your cloaked links before sharing.

Redirect Types

Choose how your short links redirect visitors. Each type has different SEO and tracking implications.

Type Code Best For
Temporary 302 Marketing links, campaigns, A/B tests (default)
Permanent 301 SEO-focused redirects, permanent content moves
Meta Refresh HTML When you need pixel firing time before redirect
JavaScript JS Maximum tracking capability, delay options

Redirect Delay

Add a delay before redirecting to ensure pixels have time to fire or to show a splash page. Configure delays from 0-10 seconds.

Social Preview Customization

Control how your links appear when shared on social media. Override the default Open Graph and Twitter Card metadata with your own branding.

Customizable Elements

Title The headline shown in social previews
Description The preview description text
Image The preview thumbnail image
Why Customize? When you share a link to someone else's content, the preview shows their branding. Custom social previews let you add your own context and call-to-action before visitors even click.

UTM Parameter Management

Automatically append UTM parameters to your destination URLs for consistent campaign tracking.

Built-in UTM Builder

The link creation form includes a UTM builder that helps you construct proper UTM parameters:

  • utm_source - Traffic source (e.g., newsletter, twitter)
  • utm_medium - Marketing medium (e.g., email, social, cpc)
  • utm_campaign - Campaign name
  • utm_term - Paid keywords (optional)
  • utm_content - A/B test variant (optional)

Parameter Forwarding

Enable parameter forwarding to pass any URL parameters from your short link to the destination. This preserves tracking parameters added by ad platforms or email systems.

Short link clicked: https://sl.cloudcopy.me/promo?ref=email&user=123
Destination receives: https://yoursite.com/offer?ref=email&user=123
